About Us

Beverley Racecourse first opened its doors in 1690, and countless thousands through the years have enjoyed a day’s racing at the iconic Westwood track ever since, allowing for a short break as an airbase during the war, when the track’s famous uphill finish actually became a runway. Now you can become part of the story. The Horse Comes First

It goes without saying that the horse is at the centre of everything we do. Racehorses in the UK enjoy some of the highest standards of care across all equestrian disciplines, yet there is a lot of anti-racing propaganda around it is important to dispel.

Leading organisations in British Horseracing have got together to increase awareness of the high standards of equine welfare in the sport. The initiative aims to improve understanding of the care given to our horses throughout and after their careers in racing.
