Pop star, actress and folk singer Barbara Dickson will be making a guest appearance at Beverley Races’ May Day meeting on May 4 to attend a race named in her honour.
The popular singer will also be returning to the Racecourse in June as one of the headline acts in the annual Beverley Folk Festival, running this year from June 19 to 21.
Barbara’s pop career began in the Seventies when she entered the Top Ten with a re-make of Hull-born David Whitfield’s Fifties’ hit Answer Me.
Later hit records included Another Suitcase in Another Hall, January, February and her No.1 record with Elaine Page, I know Him So Well. With no less than 25 albums to her credit she remains Scotland’s best-selling female singer.
She is also acknowledged as a leading actress with 2 Olivier Awards to her credit. She made her acting debut in the Liverpool Everyman production of John, Paul, George and Ringo before starring in the original production of Blood Brothers.
Her TV credits include playing Viv Nicholson in Spend, Spend, Spend, and series ranging from Taggart and Band of Gold to a resident guest spot with The Two Ronnies.
Barbara has since returned to her first love of folk singing, in which role she’ll be appearing alongside folk legends Ralph McTell and Wizz Jones on the final night of the Beverley Folk Festival on Sunday June 21st.
