Beverley Folk Festival which takes place at the Racecourse in June, have announced that three of the acts that they have booked to perform at this year’s festival have been nominated for awards at the 2016 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Gilmore and Roberts, are nominees for the ‘Best Duo’ category. Nominated in the same category in 2013, this year must be their year! Katriona Gilmore & Jamie Roberts, combine astounding lap-tapping guitar, fiery fiddle and their trademark harmonies with considerable songwriting talent to make a truly distinctive sound.
The Young’uns, winners of last years ‘Best Group’ are nominated for the same award again this year. In 2015 this trio of Cooney, Eagle & Hughes won an impressive array of awards and in 2016 with this nomination they show no signs of stopping their success train. “One of the best live acts I have ever seen – quite amazing – at the top of their profession, performing with vim, vigour and utter integrity” Mike Harding, Festival Patron
Sam Carter is the Festival’s final nominee in the much anticipated Best Album Awards for ‘Salvor’ with his band ‘False Lights’ . “An excellent singer and guitarist who writes bleak, well-observed and sad personal songs that are carefully balanced against witty, good‑humoured introductions.” - Robin Denselow, the Guardian.
Beverley Folk Festival Director, Jim Pybus commented: “We are thrilled to have three Nominees for the 2016 BB2 Radio 2 Folk Awards performing at this year’s Beverley Folk Festival.
