Glasses at the ready, bottle chilling, bets placed – Tuesday 16 June sees one of the most glamorous events of the season with the Laurent-Perrier Evening of the Horse at Beverley Racecourse.
Gates open from 5.30pm for an evening that combines exquisite Champagne and fine horses, with some fun activities to raise a smile. With racing starting at 6.15pm through to 8.45pm, this first evening event of summer 2015 gives race-goers a chance to enjoy a sparkling evening of anticipation and excitement.
Usually two weeks earlier, this June evening now benefits from finer summer evening weather and celebrates the horse in all its forms. Pride of place is our partnership with the esteemed Champagne House, Laurent-Perrier on which the new Premier Bar is styled, where you can try a range of Laurent-Perrier Champagnes. Enjoy fun and frolics with ‘Woody’ the wooden horse, astride which you can test your aim with mallet and ball for the Laurent-Perrier Polo Challenge (or on foot as decorum and dresses allow!) Through this fun activity and under the expert eye of our in-house Polo instructor, you can set your sights on winning a Magnum of Champagne courtesy of Laurent-Perrier, plus other great prizes.
Ahead of the first race, marvel at our diverse 12-horse parade including all manner of horses, from Shetlands to Shires, taking place in the Parade Ring and then onto the racecourse, while the ex-racehorse charity New Beginnings will be here showcasing the fabulous work they do to rehome ex-racehorses in the UK.
As the sun sets and the swifts circle overhead, raise your Champagne flutes to our resident commentator, Malcolm Tomlinson, who will read the famous poem ‘Ode to the Horse’, which perfectly sums up the subject of this summer celebration:
‘…. Where in this wide world can man find nobility without pride, friendship without envy or beauty without vanity? …… All our history is his industry; we are his heirs, he our inheritance. The Horse!’ Ronald Duncan 1954.
