With the Journal Ladies Day fast approaching we are delighted to announce our judges for the Laurent Perrier Style Stakes, where our winners can enjoy some absolutely fantastic prizes as well as the ultimate accolade of being crowned Journal Ladies' Day Most Stylish.
Our first judge, bespoke tailor Gillian Long, is a local lady who started her love affair with fashion at Hull College, after which she soon secured herself an apprenticeship at the prestigious Gieves and Hawks on Saville Row in London as a coatmaker, where working for clientele such as Royalty and Political Leaders was the norm. Fast forward from here to 2008 when Gillian set up Cock Of the Walk from her home in Manchester and 4 years later in 2012, moved back to Hull where she opened her first shop at 8 Grimston Street in Hull. From here Gillian and her team, who are all experts in their field, offer a fully bespoke service to both men and women using the most luxurious of fabrics. Whilst still doing all of the work from her local base in Hull Gillian has gone full circle and now also regularly meets with London clients on Saville Row where her training began.
Our second judge really needs no introduction, being responsible for both the Fabric Of Ladies' Day 2016' drawing and the beautiful designer painted horse of 2015. Lara Jensen hails from Hull, attending St Mary's College before leaving to study Fine Art at the University of Leeds. In 2007, after winning a Scholarship to the London College of Fashion to study costume design, she received her first commission from Karl Lagerfeld to design headpieces.
Since then she has worked with some of fashion and film's biggest names, including Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Kylie Minogue, Johnny Depp, Julianne Moore, Goldfrapp, Steven Berkoff, The Rolling Stones, Jessie J, The Staves, Ed Sheeran, Eliza Doolittle, Leona Lewis, Peaches and other creatives such as Guy Ritchie, as well as a regular appearance on the catwalks of London and Paris fashion weeks. Lara has gone on to generate a reputation for creating bespoke avant-garde pieces that bridge art and fashion.
Our third judge James Ash is a Journal Ladies' Day stalwart, with years of experience within the fashion industry. Setting up his own clothing labels, retail stores, trading globally and running a host of fashion shoots and events, his fashion focused business 'STASH Agency' is responsible for some of the most glamorous catwalk shows within the region and this year will be no exception. James plays a major role within the St Stephens Style Marquee, hosting the event for the third year running.
