Never been to the races before? We’ve put together a few hints and tips to help you make the best of your day with us.
What to Expect
The gates, bars and restaurants open two hours before the first race, so you’ll have plenty of time to explore the grounds, enjoy a drink and grab something to eat. When you arrive, make sure you pick up one of our raceday programmes for lots of useful information on making the most of your time with us.
You can get close to the horses before the race, so take the opportunity to go to the Parade Ring about 20 minutes before the start of each race to see if your selection looks like a winner!
You can buy these in advance or when you get here. For certain events, we’d strongly recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment – please see the Enclosures & Prices page for details and contact information. Accompanied under 18s come in for free too!
The Premier Enclosure is the only area with a smart/casual dress code. This means no sportswear or shorts and we ask that gentlemen wear a collared shirt. Make the most of the opportunity to dress up!
You can park on the Westwood and it is free. Parking in the Course Enclosure in the centre of the course is £5 per car plus the adult admission price, and £10 on the Journal Ladies' Day. Car parking in the Course Enclosure is not pre-bookable and first come, first served on all days other than The Journal Ladies' Day when you can book your spot in advance.
Dogs are not allowed on the racecourse during racing, apart from assistance dogs.
You can place bets with the Tote and on-course bookmakers in each of our three enclosures. There’s plenty of choice when betting, from straightforward win or each way bets to forecasts, placepots, quadpots and trifectas. Find out more here, or check the Tote counters and pick up one of our programmes when you get to the racecourse. You can also check out this handy video guide to betting on the tote, from the guys over at Great British Racing.
Places to Eat
You can enjoy a drink and a bite to eat in all of the bars in our three enclosures. We also have an à la carte restaurant in the Premier Enclosure. Find out more here.
Programmes are on sale for £2 from the souvenir shop and turnstiles, or £1.50 if you order in advance with your tickets. They tell you what horses are running on the day, who’s riding them, what colours they’ll be in and their recent form. They're also a great memento of your first day at the races!
