Introduction To Betting

Betting at Beverley Racecourse has been ever present since our doors first opened in 1690, and countless thousands through the years have enjoyed placing a bet on the horse racing. Whilst a day at the races doesn’t have to include a bet, for many it is a brilliant way to elevate the thrill of a raceday. Whether it be shillings, pounds, or even Bitcoin, betting has existed here for centuries and there is now more ways to bet than ever before.

Currently, there are two main ways to bet at Beverley. Tradition remains strong at Beverley Racecourse and the betting ring is still at the beating heart of the racecourse with on course bookmakers aplenty. Rails bookmakers can be found in all of our enclosures where cash is king, though some bookmakers do also accept card payments.

The second way to bet is through the Tote. Like traditional bookmakers, you can place win and each-way bets but there is also the opportunity to place multi-leg bets which includes the quadpot and placepot. From a minimum bet of £2, you can bet with the confidence of knowing you are getting the best price possible with the Tote Guarantee.

You have the choice to bet with both cash and card at Beverley Racecourse. Rails bookmakers accept cash, whilst some accept card payments. The Tote accept both cash and card payments, as well as offering a cash back service if you place a bet of £5.

 

Tote Betting

The Tote is available on-course and is a pool betting service (like a lottery). This means that for each race, all the money for the different bet types are put into one pool and then shared out amongst the winners after each race. Betting with the Tote at Beverley supports racing, with the majority of revenues flowing back to that racecourse.

Like traditional bookmakers, simply tell a member of the Tote team the type of bet you want, the stake, and the number of the horse. For example, ” £5 on number 7 to win please.” As the Tote is a pool betting service, the odds you place the bet at may not necessarily be the odds you receive, though the Tote Guarantee always ensures you get the best price possible.

Tote Placepot

For anyone wanting to try and win big from a small stake, the Tote placepot is a must. The placepot rewards customers who can pick a horse to place in each of the first 6 races on the card. This bet type provides a fun way of keeping you engaged throughout the entire day of racing if you are lucky enough to find horses who finish in the places! 2025 has already seen some big payouts from the Placepot, the Tote dividend at our Season Opener paid £788.10 to a £1 stake.

The Lucky Pick

The Lucky Pick is a new type of bet type offered by the Tote which is great fun and removes all the hard work of selecting a winner! For Lucky Pick bets the Tote use their own algorithm which picks horses at random, although it is weighted in favour of the more fancied runners to increase the chance of success. During our 2024 season racegoers collected £36,084 from Lucky Pick bets. You can buy Lucky Pick wallets, which give you a selection of bets for £5, £10, £15, or £20. You can ask for a Lucky Pick at any Tote Kiosk or team member on-course throughout the day.

Tote Guarantee

The Tote Guarantee ensures you are always paid at least the starting price on win bets. Where the Tote dividend is greater than the starting price, you’ll get paid the bigger amount. Beverley racegoers received a total amount of £51,148 in extra payments throughout our 2024 season.
