Racecourse Update

The stables have been demolished! The race is now on to build 101 stables in time for next season. The old stables having been in place for 70 years have come to the end of their useful life. A combination of age and the need for higher and higher standards required to house a racehorse has meant that new stables are required.

Demolition began almost immediately after the last raceday. The roofs were unfortunately made from asbestos and had to be removed by specialist contractors to be disposed of correctly. All the rubble from the walls is being crushed and kept on site to make a solid base for the new stables.

New veterinary facilities, samples units and horse showers are included in the scheme to make us right up to date with the current BHA requirements for racecourse stables. We will also add a new stable staff canteen as well.

Track renovations have also been taking place since racing finished. An area of the track has been scarified, hollow cored, top dressed and over seeded. On top of this the whole track has been harrowed, brush and vacuumed, over seeded and slit. The Parade rings and lawns have also been treated to a scarify, hollow core top dress and over seed. All these processes are to promote stronger, healthier and visually better turf for next year.
